THE BOTTLE
Jameson Triple Triple Chestnut Edition is made at Midleton Distillery in County Cork. Like regular Jameson, it’s triple distilled. The difference here comes from what happens in the casks.
Jameson Original uses Bourbon and Sherry casks. Triple Triple adds hand-selected sweet Chestnut casks alongside ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry, giving us the three casks behind the name.
It’s worth being specific about the Chestnut Edition because Triple Triple hasn’t always meant this exact combination. An earlier travel-retail version used Málaga wine casks as the third cask. The bottle we’re reviewing is the newer version built around sweet chestnut.
It’s bottled at 40% ABV and carries no age statement.
OUR TAKE
If you’ve already had regular Jameson, Triple Triple will feel familiar pretty quickly.
The smooth, easy-drinking side of Jameson is still there. We got more orchard fruit, though, along with warmer spice and some toasted sweetness. The finish also felt richer and creamier.
For us, the Chestnut cask is what gives this bottle a reason to exist alongside Original. It changes the whiskey enough to notice without taking it somewhere completely unfamiliar.
And that’s useful if regular Jameson has been your starting point.

You don’t necessarily need to jump straight into a completely different style of Irish whiskey to try something new. Triple Triple gives you another side of something you already know.
We’re also starting our Irish whiskey run with this bottle, and it feels like a good place to begin. Familiar enough to understand immediately, but with enough going on to make the comparison with regular Jameson interesting.
If you’ve already tried Original, we’d try Triple Triple next!
Cheers!
If you like Original but want more fruit, warmer spice and a little more richness, Triple Triple gives you that without losing the smooth character you're used to.
It also makes sense if you're starting to explore Irish whiskey and regular Jameson is one of the bottles you already know.

We got more orchard fruit, warmer spice and a richer, creamier finish while still keeping the smoothness we expected from Jameson.
If you've already tried Original and you're wondering where to go next, Triple Triple is an easy recommendation.

Frequently asked questions
Why is it called Jameson Triple Triple?
There are two sets of threes behind the name. Jameson Triple Triple is triple distilled, as you would expect from Jameson, and the Chestnut Edition uses whiskey matured across three cask types: ex-bourbon, Oloroso sherry and hand-selected sweet chestnut casks.
What is a sweet chestnut cask?
It refers to a cask made from sweet chestnut wood rather than the oak normally associated with whisky maturation. For Triple Triple, Jameson says these casks were sourced from southern France and had previously been used for fortified wine before being selected for the whiskey.
Is Jameson Triple Triple still an Irish whiskey if it uses chestnut casks?
Yes. Irish whiskey rules require the spirit to mature in wooden casks, with each cask holding no more than 700 litres, for at least three years on the island of Ireland. The rules do not restrict maturation exclusively to oak.
Are all Jameson Triple Triple bottles the same?
No. The current widely released Triple Triple is the Chestnut Edition, but the name has also been used for other cask combinations. The earlier travel-retail Málaga Cask Edition combined bourbon and sherry casks with Málaga wine casks. Jameson also has a Marsala Cask Edition using hand-selected Marsala casks. So if you’re comparing Triple Triple bottles, check which edition you’re looking at.
Is Jameson Triple Triple an age-statement whiskey?
No. The Chestnut Edition carries no age statement and is bottled at 40% ABV. Its point of difference is the triple-cask maturation rather than a declared minimum age.
How should you drink Jameson Triple Triple?
We’d suggest trying Jameson Triple Triple over ice or with a little water. It’s an easy-drinking whiskey to begin with and either works well with the fruit, warm spice and richer sweetness we found in the glass.
